We moved off from Nazareth and headed towards The Jordan Valley and the Sea of Galilee. We passed through Cana without stopping. Cana was the scene of Christs's first miracle when he turne water into wine at a wedding there. Clearly a useful chap to have as a guest if you have a wedding on the horizon!
We then passed the supposed site of the Transfiguration of Jesus, an event reported
in the New Testament when Jesus is transfigured and becomes radiant
in glory upon a mountain. On the mountain, Jesus begins to shine with bright
rays of light. Then the prophets Moses and Elijah appear next to him and he
speaks with them.
Mount Hermon
(2814 metres / 9232 feet high), has been suggested for two reasons: it's the highest in the area (and the Transfiguration
took place on "an high mountain"
(Matthew 17:1)), and it's located near Caesarea Philippi (Matthew 16:13),
where the previous events reportedly took place.
Then we caught our first glimpses of the Sea of Galilee and the Jordan Valley .....
